Любая наземная система защиты всегда будет иметь существенный недостаток для самолета. Это потому, что самолет движется с предельной скоростью, в то время как большинство противовоздушных систем должны быть стационарными для работы.
Это также из-за гравитации. Совместная ударная ракета имеет радиус действия 100-300 миль и размещается во внутреннем отсеке для оружия F-35. Новейшее противорадиационное оружие AGM-88 HARM представляет собой ракету Mach 2 с радиусом действия в 150 миль, которая также вписывается во внутренний отсек F-35. Размер ракеты совместного удара:

Ground systems are simply at a significant disadvantage. Their only ability (their radar) to detect both their biggest threat and their primary targets gives away their position and makes them vulnerable. They can’t actually detect stealth aircraft flying clean at the range they can deploy these weapons, meaning they might give away their position without ever detecting a threatening F-35 within range. Though, they can detect and shoot down the incoming missiles
However, wars are not fought on paper. Only an idiot would expect the S-400 to duke it out with F-35’s without support. These systems are apart of a much wider Integrated Air Defense System (IADS). The S-400 will be providing a SAM umbrella to a very capable fighter fleet on their own side depending on who is using it. The biggest threat to the F-35 won’t be the S-400 itself, but the fighters it is acting as eyes for and directing. Defensive AEW aircraft could be feeding targeting information to both.
The S-400 needs to be thought of in its role in a wider integrated system, just as the F-35 will be operating within a wider network of jamming, AEW, tanker and other support assets itself. Who would win is anybodies guess, though I know where I am putting my money
